The controls that matter

Four knobs, all of them about the printed page.

Line weight

Bold outlines a three-year-old can stay inside of, or a fine line worth shading at nine. The same photo, re-drawn to match the hand.

Detail level

Detail reduction removes interior lines rather than just thinning them, so a simplified sheet still reads as the same subject.

Background

Remove it for a clean subject on white, simplify it to a few suggestive lines, or keep it drawn in the same outline style.

Colour reference

Keep a coloured version alongside the outline, to project on the board or print small in the corner of the sheet.

What you get back

The same style as the library.

Converted photos are drawn to match the library, so a worksheet mixing your own photos with library drawings still looks like one set.

Honest about it

What converts beautifully, and what does not.

Converts well

  • ✓ One clear subject
  • ✓ A plain-ish background
  • ✓ Daylight or bright indoor light
  • ✓ Pets, toys, buildings, vehicles

Needs a retake

  • ✗ A busy background
  • ✗ Backlight or deep shadow
  • ✗ Fine texture close-ups
  • ✗ Several subjects competing for attention

Photos of children

Your photo is only ever used to make your drawing.

It is never used to train a model and never shown to anyone else. Finished sheets stay in your history for seven days, so download or print anything you want to keep.
